GENERAL MOORING TIPS
BEWARE!!! If lobster gear becomes tangled in your mooring alert your harbormaster of the issue. CBM,LLC cannot handle lobster gear (nor should boat owners) without the proper authority granted by a harbormaster.
CHAFE GEAR - is the CAPTAINS responsibility. CBM, LLC sells pennants with movable chafe gear but it is up to the captain to secure it properly. Captains should examine pennants after every storm and make sure they are not tangled.
HURRICANES - if you have a trailer for your boat - PULL IT, Marinas practice this. There many other factors are to be considered during a hurricane. Of course you should always make sure your mooring is in top shape, but even if you have a brand new mooring, your pumps could fail in heavy rain, ropes can chafe and break etc. If you can't pull your boat and have to leave your boat on its mooring, check your pendant/s and make sure they are secure, make sure your batteries are charged and bilge pumps in working order - DO NOT put an extra anchor in… this will only foul up your mooring system and cause tangling and scoping. REMOVE everything you can from your boat including BOW ANCHORS, cushions, sails, and anything that could blow off your boat.
